Prayer Letter from Kenya (Jason &Susan Kim)
Ministry Report
1. Security Situation – Isiolo
In early 2026, from February to March, the Isiolo region experienced ongoing inter-tribal conflicts. Violent clashes, including shootings, occurred as groups attempted to attack one another and seize livestock. Due to these circumstances, schools and churches were temporarily closed. The situation became particularly dangerous, with gunshots heard even near Pastor Samuel’s residence. We were also advised to avoid travel to the northern areas near Isiolo during this time.
From late February to mid-March, there were additional concerns due to tensions related to the Iran conflict. During this period, some Muslim communities expressed hostility toward foreigners, particularly white Americans, requiring heightened caution.
At present, the situation has largely stabilized.
2. Church Construction Progress – Isiolo
Despite the prolonged instability that had previously prevented progress, construction work at the Isiolo church has now resumed. Current efforts include the installation of second-floor windows, stairways, and guardrails for the ceiling area above the pulpit.
Please pray for Pastor Samuel, who is faithfully leading and overseeing all aspects of this construction work.
3. Marsabit Ministry (On Hold) – Marsabit Region
Approximately three hours north of Isiolo, near Marsabit, there is a community where people gather under a tree for study and worship. Plans had been made to construct a simple wooden church building in this area.
However, due to recent changes and instability in the region, the project is currently on hold. Long-term settlement in this community depends on the availability of essential infrastructure, particularly water and electricity. As a result, the offering designated by Daeae Church must also be held until the situation stabilizes.
We ask for prayer that access to water and electricity will soon be established in this region.
4. Seminary Teaching Ministry
(1) Benin
From January 17 to 26, seminary lectures were conducted in Benin, a French-speaking country in West Africa with a population of approximately 13 million. Around 35 students participated in the training.
Although Benin is officially a democracy, it exhibits authoritarian tendencies and remains economically challenged, with a GDP per capita of about $1,600. The lectures were held in Cotonou, the country’s primary administrative center. Even in this city, development remains limited, with relatively few multi-story buildings.
Despite these challenges, local churches in Benin are independently operating a seminary. In partnership with ATI, which provides faculty support, they are faithfully training competent and devoted servants of the Lord.
(2) Nairobi, Kenya
In Nairobi, Preaching II was taught at Bridge World Seminary. It has been approximately two years since the course was first introduced, and it has been deeply encouraging to witness the students’ significant growth and maturity.
The entire second-year class is currently preparing for a short-term mission scheduled for August. Their goal is to share the gospel with communities along the Tana River in southeastern Kenya and to assist in supporting a church plant.
The local pastor serving in this region faithfully ministers under very challenging conditions, traveling approximately 35 kilometers round trip by bicycle between his home and the church. A used motorcycle, costing approximately $700, would greatly assist his ministry.
Prayer is also requested for the financial needs related to the team’s one-week stay and outreach efforts to support impoverished communities in the area.
We pray that, by the grace of the Lord, all the needs of the students will be met and that their ministry will bear abundant fruit.
Prayer Requests
From January 17–26, seminary lectures were held in Benin with approximately 30 students. Please pray that the training will bear good and abundant fruit, raising up many servants of God, and that a revival of the gospel may take place in French-speaking and Muslim regions.
From March 23 to April 3, Preaching II was taught in Nairobi. The second-year students have shown significant growth in their biblical knowledge, theological understanding, and spiritual maturity compared to when they first began two years ago. This August, the entire class is planning a one-week mission trip to the Tana River area in southeastern Kenya, where there is a church plant in a predominantly Muslim region. Please pray that all necessary finances and preparations will be provided, and that through their dedication, the gospel will be proclaimed and a healthy, strong church will be established.
At Peniel Church in Isiolo, safety improvements are underway, including the installation of stairways, windows, and guardrails on the second floor. Please pray that the work will be completed safely without any accidents, and that all additional construction funds needed will be provided.
Beginning in May, theological training will be provided for elementary school teachers from a slum community (who attended a retreat in November 2025), as well as staff members of Hosanna Broadcasting who serve the Maasai people in the Narok region of northwestern Kenya. Please pray that this training will be a meaningful and effective time of equipping for all participants.
Voice of Hope Ministry: This ministry serves approximately 30 youth from a slum community and about 30 women living with HIV/AIDS. Please pray for the water well project, that a larger water tank can be successfully installed, and that the necessary financial resources will be provided to meet this need.
