Prayer letter from Dominican Republic(Myungkwan Kang) March

Dominican Republic Mission Report – March 2026

“Turn my eyes away from worthless things; renew my life according to Your word.” (Psalm 119:37)

May I not look upon worthless things in this land the Lord has given me, but instead meditate solely on His word and fix my gaze upon the Lord, who renews my life each day. I extend my gratitude to our mission partners whose love and prayers help renew the lives of everyone who comes and goes here through the power of God’s word.

1. School Ministry

To mark World Water Day on March 22—under the slogan "Water of Life: Benefiting All and Embracing the World"—we held an event to teach the value of water, which sustains our lives. Beyond this, we hope all our students will come to drink the eternal water provided by the Lord and realize the springing up of a well of joy that ensures they will never thirst again. (John 4:4)

As we inspect and repair school facilities, we have purchased new playground equipment in hopes of creating a more vibrant school environment. The children particularly love the new trampoline; seeing them laugh and play with such excitement, I pray that all these children will always live with bright, happy smiles.

2. Mission Center Ministry

The construction of the restaurant, which began with the precious dedication of a Korean church, has now entered the final stage. Construction is completed first by installing doors, windows, kitchen sinks, etc. Now, we plan to hold a completion ceremony in May and start operating a restaurant. Please pray for a good supply of kitchen appliances and utensils, and for children's tables, chairs, and plates that have not yet been purchased. So, I pray that this Elim Restaurant will be a place for students and Haitian refugees to praise and share the good God who provides us abundantly.

Haitians in the Dominican Republic have endured truly arduous lives. Driven by poverty and hunger, they began arriving in large numbers between the late 19th century and the 1930s to work on the country's vast sugarcane plantations. They primarily reside in bateyes—settlements for plantation workers—where they provide low-cost labor for the sugarcane harvest. However, they face a critical issue regarding statelessness; restricted access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities leaves the majority unable to leave the area. For them, this place represents not merely an impoverished region, but a landscape of despair where opportunities are blocked. As we strive to help them live beautiful lives with human dignity and identity, we hope that the Haitian refugee shelter—built through the "Twelve Baskets" initiative of Myungsung Church—will bring rest, restoration, and hope to at least one family.

"Twelve Baskets" Shelter for Haitian Refugees

Prayer request

1) To serve as a mission base platform where youth, pastors, and missionaries can share mission training and mission through the Dominican Mission Center.

2) May the mission center repair work, school cafeteria work, and Haitian refugee shelter construction be completed successfully so that students studying at the center and school can enrich themselves in the Word and faith.

3) Plant and take care of trees and crops in the mission center's farms and fields so that Haitian refugees and those in need can eat and share abundant food with each other.
