Prayer letter from Dominican Republic (Myungkwan Kang) April
Dominican Republic Mission Report – April 2026
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”
(Psalm 133:1)
It is our hope that many people will come and go at this mission center, dwelling together in unity and praising the goodness of the Lord. We extend our gratitude to our fellow mission partners who pray with love, enabling us to share the reality and loving-kindness of the Lord with many people through this place.
1. Situation in the Dominican Republic
This April, typical Caribbean weather patterns brought torrential rains exceeding 300mm in a single day, accompanied by strong winds. The resulting damage included collapsed bridges and the flooding of vehicles and homes, leaving thousands of families displaced. Power and water outages forced schools to close, halting classes for four days. Together with other missionaries, we gathered and delivered clothing and relief supplies to the flood victims, offering comfort and praying that they might rise again through the love of the Lord.
2. School Ministry
At Eden School, teachers and students engage in daily instruction grounded in the Word and prayer. Additionally, the school hosts a variety of special events that provide students with rich, diverse learning experiences. On Earth Day (April 22), students used cardboard and recycled materials to create models depicting the current state of the Earth; this activity served as an opportunity to learn about the importance of cherishing and preserving God’s creation and to understand the impact of environmental stewardship on our shared lives.
Through Earth Day, we hold commemorative events to preserve the Earth well.
MIssion center
Construction of the mission center’s cafeteria has been completed. Given the area's heavy rainfall, we also installed covered walkways—funded by an elder from a Korean-American church—connecting the classrooms to the cafeteria, the church, and the restrooms. Now, people can move between these areas without getting wet, even in the rain. Starting next semester, we plan to launch after-school programs that include meals and classes in subjects like English, music, physical education, and art, helping students broaden their horizons and pursue diverse dreams. We are also prayerfully preparing a bread-sharing ministry, using the cafeteria facilities to bake and distribute bread to Haitian refugees facing food insecurity. To support this cafeteria ministry, Elder Kim Myung-deok and his wife—who have prayed for us for 20 years—have closed their restaurant business in the U.S. and joined the Central American mission center as partner missionaries. We hope to serve together here, sharing God’s love and the Gospel with the students and Haitian refugees.

PRAYER REQUEST
1) To serve as a mission base platform where youth, pastors, and missionaries can share mission training and mission through the Dominican Mission Center.
2) The mission center repair work and cafeteria equipment are well equipped and completed so that the students studying at the center and school can be strong and enriched both spiritually and physically.
3) Plant and take care of trees and crops in the mission center's farms and fields so that Haitian refugees and those in need can eat and share abundant food with each other.
